Swavesey, Cambridgeshire

We’re proud to be based in Swavesey, a welcoming village in South Cambridgeshire. It’s around nine miles north-west of Cambridge and only a few miles from the market town of St Ives.

Make It Wild
What Makes Swavesey Special
  • The population is approximately 2,700-2,800 people as of the 2021 census, giving it the feel of a true community rather than just a commuter village.

  • Swavesey sits directly on the Prime Meridian, which is a neat geographical quirk and something residents often like to point out.

  • Education is strong: Swavesey Village College is an established secondary school that serves Swavesey and surrounding villages, with evening adult education, clubs, and community activities.

  • The village has a rich history, being mentioned in the Domesday Book and having origins tied up with medieval estates, old churches, and even a priory

Community Spirit & Local Initiatives
  • Strong volunteer involvement is very much part of life here. There are numerous clubs and societies: camera club, history society, quilting groups, community choir, WI, and more.

  • In 2019 local residents planted a heritage orchard on Church Green, off Station Road, with fruit trees provided by community and heritage lottery funding. A wildlife pond was added more recently to support local flora and fauna like great crested newts

  • Constable’s Rood is another example: a small piece of land once used by the village constable has been transformed into a wildlife garden and community space.
